The Integrated Service Management Experience: MarsLander®


This is not a course; rather, it is a business simulation – a highly interactive training workshop. It is presented onsite at your location, or virtually online to a group of selected team members from an organization.

Discover how your team interacts and works together while responding to rapidly changing circumstances in this exciting and experiential simulated environment. As the MarsLander scenario progresses, participants will learn how to use integrated service management – proven ITSM capabilities and Lean, Agile, and DevOps practices – to produce tangible results and achieve all mission goals.

As Pink Elephant’s highly skilled facilitator guides you through the simulation every step of the way, this interactive training workshop provides a safe (risk free!) environment where your team can experiment and explore new ways of working together to quickly respond to new business requests and deliver fast, reliable, and error-free solutions. They will accomplish this by changing their respective mindsets, learning to see the organization’s customer as their primary focus, and implementing continual learning and improvement.

The mission: Launch a rocket with the MarsLander on board, land on Mars, and collect valuable data for universities and research centers. The mission director who manages the mission center leads a team consisting of flight operation, navigation, and communication experts. These specialists manage the flight plan of the mission in accordance with the mission goals, as well as contractual agreements with the customers and suppliers. Each member of your team will adopt a role with specific tasks, responsibilities, and authority.


Participants will learn how to transform your current IT organization into a more agile and lean one capable of delivering business value more quickly, efficiently, and effectively. The following aspects will be experienced and discussed:

  • How to increase speed and quality
  • Key elements of the Lean philosophy, including how to standardize work practices
  • The principles and concepts of Agile service management, including the ‘Agile way of thinking’

  • How to effectively manage workloads (end-to-end) and how to reduce unplanned work

This is a great team-building experience. The one-day workshop is designed for IT practitioners at any and all levels in IT operations and IT service management, software development, and other areas of IT service and delivery. The MarsLander interactive training workshop is especially beneficial for IT organizations seeking to understand what it means to add business value.


This business simulation has a strict minimum and maximum number of attendees for both the onsite and virtual online options. For onsite, 8-12 confirmed participants are required. For virtual online, eight confirmed participants are required.
